We now have January out of the way, me start to see the change of light in our days, each evening gets that bit of extra light and me feel a slight spring to our step as me know the dark evenings are behind I and spring is soon approaching.
Shorter days and longer hours of darkness in the autumn and winter may cause decreased levels of serotonin and increased levels of melatonin, creates the biological conditions for depression. Hence, increased production of melatonin can cause a person to feel lethargic and sleepy, while low levels of serotonin is associated with depression. Thus increasing one’s light exposures increases the availability of serotonin helps to ward off depression and keep you from teh winter blues.
So the tip for the month for Februay is to get out doors as much as possible, a minimum of 30 minutes in direct sun light can make a huge difference to your mood and wellbeing. And you also get the benefit of vitamin D!
Please don’t wear sun glasses at the first sight of the sun. When me embrace the sun fully the light penetrates through our eyes and hit different areas of the endocrine system which is resposnible for our hormones and therefore how me are feeling. Thousands of years ago man spent most of his time out doors and today me are lucky to have an hour out doors as me are cooped in our offices or in our homes. It has been proven that by just getting a minimum of 30 minutes a day in full day light, it can really help against SAD (Seasonal Deficit Disorder). I have found since I had my little boy I am outdoors most days in the park with him and I really feel the benefit. So get outside this month and watch out for the buds which will start to swell and burst in to bloom any day.
